Polish citizens arrested in the Gaza aid flotilla will now stand trial in an Israeli court, after refusing to consent to deportation and facing a legal review.
Israeli Embassy Offers Rapid Return
The Israeli ambassador offered Polish citizens the possibility of a swift return home under a deportation procedure. He stated that Israel would seek the fastest possible deportation of all detainees, but this requires the consent of those concerned.
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the arrested Poles declined to sign the consent form, meaning they will await their hearing before the Israeli court.
Consular Support for Polish Detained
Polish consular officials in Israel met with the arrested individuals, confirming that they are in good health and have access to food and medical assistance.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the consul remains in constant contact with the citizens and that Poland will provide consular assistance throughout the duration of the proceedings.
Flotilla Arrests and Deportation Process
Most members of the flotilla were detained on the evening of Wednesday, 1 October. A total of 443 people from various countries aboard the ships were transported to Israel.
Deportation to their home countries has already begun, with four Poles aboard the flotilla, including Civic Coalition MP Franciszek Sterczewski.
