Trams Set to Return to Okęcie on Monday, Oct. 13

WARSZAWA – Tram operators confirmed that regular services on Grójecka and Krakowska avenues will resume the Monday following the closure, after crews completed track renewal and built a new junction at Grójecka–Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 r.–Banacha.

Regular Service Resumes on Grójecka and Krakowska

Tram Warszawa announced that regular routes on Grójecka and Krakowska avenues will restart on Monday, 13 October. A measurement tram tested the full route on 6 October following track renewal.

A new splitter complex, featuring a full “star” configuration, was constructed at the intersection of Grójecka, Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 r. and Banacha. This junction supports tram movements in all directions once the line to the West Station becomes operational.

Extensive Track and Infrastructure Works

Trams crews replaced rails and substructure, reinforced ground, and installed new drainage along the segment from the Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 r. crossing to Narutowicza square. In addition, the tracks to the P+R Al. Krakowska loop were overhauled, with rail grinding and crossing repairs at 1 Sierpnia and Bakalarska streets.

Station Square Repairs Ongoing

Barrier and curb replacements are underway at Wawelska and Och‑Teatr stops. The crossing over the Wawelska rail bed remains closed and still serves as the main detour for road traffic.

Re‑opening After a Four‑and‑a‑Half‑Month Closure

The closure, announced in early June because of the junction construction and underground infrastructure upgrades, lasted approximately 4½ months. A measurement tram’s presence on 6 October signals an imminent return of regular service.

Future Plans: Green Line and Underground Station

Later this autumn, the renewed track section will be shaded with a green corridor. Work on the tunnel and the first underground tram stop in Warsaw will continue after service recommences. City and company officials expect full operation of the West Station line by 2026.
