A 10‑year‑old boy in Złotoryja, Poland, died after swallowing a pawn of a Chinese checkers set on February 27, prompting a police investigation and a pending expert report.

Prosecutor Liliana Łukasiewicz said the prosecution is waiting for the expert’s findings to determine whether medical crew actions were proper.

Incident Details

According to the facts recorded by investigators, the child was playing Chinese checkers under a guardian’s supervision when he reportedly said he had swallowed a pawn and then lost consciousness.

Emergency services arrived, and the child was air‑lifted by the Fire and Rescue Medical Helicopter Company to a hospital.

Medical Outcome

After several days of treatment, doctors declared the boy brain‑stem dead, and the municipality mayor confirmed the death in early March.
