Speaker Szymon Hołownia was questioned by Warsaw district prosecutors over his remarks on a “coup d’état,” with the Constitutional Tribunal president and a lawyer from Ordo Iuris also in attendance.
Speaker Appears Before Prosecutor
Szymon Hołownia appeared at the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office as a witness regarding his comments about a “coup d’état.” The hearing also hosted Bogdan Święczkowski, president of the Constitutional Tribunal, and Bartosz Lewandowski, a lawyer linked to Ordo Iuris. Lewandowski stated that KRS, as a party to the investigation, had been permitted to participate and that he would be able to ask questions, although the questions would remain undisclosed because the process is confidential. The prosecutor warned that the session would be lengthy and that it was briefly halted before noon due to the speaker’s duties. A new hearing is scheduled for 3 November at 11:00.
Hołownia’s “Coup d’État” Remarks
Hołownia said on Polsat News in late July that he had repeatedly been offered to carry out a coup d’état and that he would refer to the situation where he was dissatisfied with the president and might refuse to swear him in. He was speaking about the change in the date of the National Assembly that, on 6 August, swore in Karol Nawrocki as Poland’s elected president.
Prosecutor Announces Upcoming Hearing
On 29 July, prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba notified that a hearing of Speaker Hołownia would take place within the next few days or weeks, subject to availability. He emphasized that the investigation would not interfere with parliamentary work and that authorities were keen to learn what the speaker would say about possible incitement to a coup d’état.
