Two 19-year-olds in Otwock have been charged with animal abuse after abandoning their dogs by tying them to a pole in a forest area because the pets interfered with their relocation.
Investigation into Abandonment
Police from the Otwock department specializing in environmental crimes were alerted to two dogs left in a wooded area. The animals were tethered to a pole at a road intersection, completely deprived of food, water, and freedom of movement.
Authorities identified the suspects—a 19-year-old man and woman—after receiving reports from local city officials. The suspects admitted they abandoned the animals because the dogs no longer fit their plans following a change in residence.
Legal Consequences for Animal Cruelty
The pair was quickly located and apprehended, subsequently facing formal charges of animal abuse. In Poland, abandoning an animal in conditions that threaten its life is legally classified as a criminal act of cruelty.
The suspects now await a court ruling regarding their fate. Officials emphasize that pets are not disposable items and stress that owners unable to care for animals should seek responsible rehoming through shelters or animal welfare organizations.
