Emergency services in Poznań are conducting an active search of the Warta River after an intoxicated woman claimed she and three others entered the water during the night.
Police response to reported incident
Sub-inspector Łukasz Paterski of the Poznań Municipal Police confirmed that officers received a report shortly after 5:00 a.m. from a woman who claimed to have entered the Warta River several hours earlier. The woman, who was found at her home with a blood alcohol level exceeding two per mille, insisted she had managed to climb out of the water on her own.
Due to the woman’s expressed suicidal ideations, she was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Concerns over additional individuals
The woman further claimed that she had encouraged three other people, who were camping by the river, to enter the water with her. Despite the claim appearing unlikely given the rainy weather, police inspected the area near Szelągowski Park, where they found no traces of other people or abandoned belongings.
Ongoing river search
Despite the lack of evidence at the scene, emergency services are continuing search operations on the Warta River to rule out any threat to human life. The mission involves multiple fire brigade units and water rescue teams.
