Storm Alerts Issued for Six Provinces

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued first-degree weather alerts for six provinces, forecasting heavy rain, strong winds, and localized hail throughout Monday, May 18.

Meteorological Outlook

Low-pressure systems with frontal patterns will dominate Western and Eastern Europe, while high-pressure systems will prevail over the remainder of the continent. Western Poland will be influenced by a high-pressure ridge from Finland, whereas the east faces a trough with a warm front linked to a low-pressure system moving from Belarus toward Lithuania.

Warmer, more humid maritime polar air will persist in the east, contrasting with drier, cooler air in the west. Atmospheric pressure is expected to fluctuate slightly.

Storm Warnings and Impacts

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued first-degree alerts for storms effective Monday, May 18, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Forecasts indicate heavy rainfall between 20 mm and 25 mm, reaching 30 mm locally, with wind gusts up to 65 km/h and isolated hail.

These first-degree alerts signify potential for significant material damage and risks to health and life. Residents should anticipate communication disruptions, traffic delays, and the possible cancellation of outdoor events.

Temperature Forecast

On Monday, May 18, maximum temperatures will range from 17°C in the northeast and west to 21°C in the southeast. Cooler conditions are expected in the belt spanning Lesser Poland and Upper Silesia to Greater Poland, with temperatures between 12°C and 16°C, dropping to 9°C in Podhale and the Silesian Beskids.

Tuesday’s maximum temperatures will vary from 16°C in parts of the north and Carpathian foothills to 21°C in the west and east, with coastal regions seeing 12°C to 15°C.
