Free Flower Giveaway Launches
From 15 to 17 October, Warsaw residents can collect geraniums, sage, and gaurie at bus and tram loops, as the City Cleaning Board replaces summer displays with autumn arrangements.
What Plants Are Offered
The event includes geraniums, begonias, gaurie, sage, and Patagonian verbena, all free to take to balconies or gardens.
Timing and Collection Details
The program begins Wednesday, 15 October 7:00 a.m. and ends Friday, 17 October. Flowers are available at Żerań FSO, Rondo Wiatraczna, Nowe Bemowo, and Wilanów loops. Participants should bring gloves, a small trowel, and containers.
How to Winter Geraniums
Trim stems to 15–20 cm, remove yellow leaves, and shorten longest roots. Space the plants 15 cm apart and use good‑quality soil. Place them in a bright, cool spot (basement, garage, stairwell) and maintain 5–10 °C. Avoid overwatering and protect stems. Raise the temperature by 3–4 °C in mid‑January, gradually increase watering, and fertilize. New shoots appear in March; trimming their tips thickens the plant and boosts flowers. Around mid‑May, when frosts have passed, move the plants outside.
Prepare Your Own Tools
Residents should bring their own trowel and containers, as some flowers may be distributed quickly. Planning early in the event is advisable.
