Train Suitcase Stolen, Valued at 48,000 zlotys

On 11 October, a Brazilian passenger’s 48,000‑zloty luggage was stolen on a Szczecin‑Gdańsk train, and investigators traced a GPS‑linked suitcase to Wejherowo County, where the thieves were arrested.

Suitcase Stolen on a Szczecin‑Gdańsk Train

On 11 October, a theft occurred on the Szczecin‑Gdańsk Główny train. A Brazilian passenger traveling on this service noticed that her suitcase had been taken from the luggage rack. Inside were high‑value items — designer handbags, cosmetics, perfumes, and personal belongings. The victim estimates the loss at 48 thousand zlotys. When she reported the incident at the Śródmieście police station, she told officers that the suitcase contained a GPS locator linked to her phone. Initially the device did not provide a specific location, but after some time the signal appeared.

Locator Leads Investigators to Wejherowo County

New locator data quickly confirmed that the suitcase was in the Wejherowo County. On Tuesday morning (14 October), officers from Śródmieście, together with agents from the Gniewino station, drove to the indicated address. At one of the properties, they arrested two men aged 33 and 43. During a search of their home, officers found the stolen suitcase and most of its contents. In addition, they seized a 4‑thousand‑zloty camera that had previously been stolen in Łódź and a 4.5‑thousand‑zloty mobile phone whose loss was reported in Wejherowo.

Other Crimes Linked to Younger Detainee

Investigators discovered that the younger of the arrested men had additional offences. In July of this year at Gdańsk Główny station, he stole from a tourist’s backpack in Lubin a wallet containing ATM cards. Police findings show he used the cards for 34 attempts at unauthorized transactions, some of which he carried out together with an older acquaintance.

Charges and Potential Sentences

Both detainees have been charged. The 33‑year‑old faces prosecution for the suitcase theft under repeat‑offender circumstances, ATM card theft, and attempted unauthorized payments. The 43‑year‑old also faces charges related to these crimes. Penalties include up to ten years’ imprisonment for burglary and up to five years for ATM card theft and appropriation. Police continue to examine whether the detainees were involved in other thefts.
