The District Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra opened an inquiry into the three Belgian shepherds that bit a 46‑year‑old man. The owner was arrested on Thursday, and activities involving his dogs are expected on Friday, 17 October.
Owner Former Police Dog Trainer Bound By No Breeding License
Reports from Gazeta Wyborcza say the shooting range owner was a former criminal‑division officer who retired with his father and brother, also police officers. He allegedly kept and trained puppies for later sale, but lacked a registered breeding license.
He recruited a retired police dog handler to prep the dogs for police qualification, but the animals failed to meet service standards, leading to their release.
46‑Year‑Old Truck Driver Attacked by Escaped Dogs
The victim, a truck driver taking a break, entered a forest near Zielona Góra on 12 October to gather mushrooms. Three Belgian shepherds ran from the shooting range and attacked him.
The driver sustained 53 severe wounds from bites and scratches and was transferred to hospital in critical condition. He later died in the emergency department.
