A 42‑year‑old Gdynia resident was arrested after police discovered a cache of flammable mixtures at his home, linking him to a series of car‑burning incidents since June.
Immediate Arrest After Latest Incident
Police arrested the suspect immediately following a recent arson event. The 42‑year‑old resident was detained on the spot, carrying containers filled with remnants of flammable mixtures.
Consistent Pattern Since June
All reported incidents in Gdynia since June were analyzed and found to be connected. The suspect is identified as the common perpetrator behind the series.
Evidence of Improvised Flammable Mixtures
Searches of the suspect’s residence uncovered numerous containers holding liquids and substances that experts say could be used to create explosive or pyrotechnic blends. Tests confirmed that the materials could produce an auto‑ignition mixture.
Targeted Ukrainian‑Plate Vehicles
The suspect aimed chiefly to destroy cars bearing Ukrainian registration plates. However, vehicles with Polish plates owned by Gdynia residents were also damaged during the attacks.
Charges and Court Action
The suspect faces charges for the destruction of several vehicles, with the damage estimated at no less than 262,000 zlotys. On 16 October, a court imposed a three‑month detention and said the offense carries a possible sentence of up to five years’ imprisonment.
