Security forces on the Polish‑Belarus border uncovered a 30‑meter tunnel, opened on 17 October near Kondratki, crossing into Poland, prompting a police investigation.
Border Guard Releases Tunnel Footage
Polish Border Guard posted a video showing the tunnel entrance and the first segment. The footage was released on 23 October.
30‑Meter Tunnel Extends Below Polish Side
Investigators found the tunnel ran beneath the border line and technical road beside the barrier. It began on the Belarusian side and ended about 20 m inside Poland.
At its highest point it measured nearly 1.8 m in height.
Ministry Confirms 24‑Hour Tunnel Operation
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration noted that the tunnel had been active for about a day. Polish officers discovered its entrance thanks to electronic sensors that detected movement.
Officials said the border remains tight and Belarusian authorities continually attempt new methods to bypass Polish security.
Poland Logs Multiple Illegal Crossing Attempts
On 23 October Border Guard recorded 17 attempts to cross illegally. The previous week, four days from 17 to 20 October, they detected 300 attempts.
Six couriers were detained. Incidents occurred near Michałowo, Czeremsze, Mielnik, Płaska, and Dubiczach Cerkiewny.
Existing Metal Barriers and Patrols on Frontier
In 2022 a metal fence was erected on a 200‑km stretch of the Polish‑Belarus border, standing 5.5 m tall.
It is monitored and regularly patrolled by Border Guard officers.
