Central Investigation Office of the Polish Police has lodged a formal complaint against TVN journalist Grzegorz Głuszak, alleging that his 2023 report breached basic journalistic ethics.
CBŚP Claims Ethical Violations
The Central Investigation Office (CBŚP) reported that journalist Grzegorz Głuszak and the TVN program’s publisher violated fundamental journalistic principles—truth, objectivity, and honesty—in their recent report. It alleged that the story presented claims of political pressure that could have altered the timing of police actions in 2018 during a corruption investigation, yet no evidence or sources were cited.
Police Reject Pressure Allegations
CBŚP stated that all activities carried out in 2018 proceeded in accordance with established procedures and in coordination with the prosecutor’s office. The agency said the documentary misleadingly combined a decades‑old investigation with a 2023 case involving lost classified material, a linkage based solely on opinions of individuals currently facing criminal proceedings.
Strong Denials
The office reiterated that the evidence gathered by its officers justified arrests and charges, proving that no external entity influenced CBŚP’s operations. It emphasized that the allegations regarding supposed repercussions against its officers are unrelated to the 2023 missing‑material case, which took place five years later.
Unverified Claims Criticized
CBŚP warned that accusations of acting on political orders are among the most serious charges a police officer can face, and that unfounded claims harm both the agency’s reputation and public trust. It also alleged that the report attacked the reputation of former CBŚP commander Paweł Półtorzycki.
Journalist’s Alleged Plan
According to Głuszak, CBŚP officers were close to exposing a corruption scheme in Bogatynia involving the purchase of local election votes for money, alcohol, and drugs. He said the operation was halted out of concern that its outcomes would appear negative on television, and that decisions were informal and left no trace.
