A knife attacker on a train from Doncaster to London on 1 November was restrained by a crew member, police said, while five other victims were later discharged.
Only suspect identified
The Transport Police say the single suspect is a 32‑year‑old man from Peterborough. A second 35‑year‑old Londoner was released without further action.
Crew member heroics
The LNER employee who tried to stop the attacker was badly wounded and remains in critical hospital condition. Five other passengers were hospitalised and later discharged.
Surveillance footage shows the crew member acted heroically and probably saved many lives, a deputy commander of the Transport Police said.
Locomotive driver’s decisive action
LNER managing director David Horne applauded staff and said the driver, alerted to the incident, diverted the train to Huntingdon where police and rescue teams were summoned, instead of stopping between stations.
The driver’s decision was praised by the union, which said he was shaken but acted correctly.
