The collision happened Sunday (9 November) at around 3 p.m. on state road DW521 near the village of Susz in Iława County, Warmian‑Masurian Voivodeship. Iława police spokesperson Junior Inspector Anna Sznarkowska said preliminary investigations indicate the 19‑year‑old driver was attempting an overtaking manoeuvre when the Audi veered onto the shoulder and could not return to the roadway. The vehicle struck a roadside tree. She added that fallen, slick leaves may have impeded the overtaking.

The 19‑year‑old driver was killed on the scene. An 18‑year‑old passenger survived but was transported to the hospital where she is in critical condition. Police are investigating the circumstances. Inspector Sznarkowska said, “The Audi was travelling at excessive speed that was not adapted to the road conditions.” She noted that Saturday’s weather featured dense fog that limited visibility.
