At approximately 10:55 local time, a truck weighing about one ton accelerated toward the market area in Bucheon. It struck a dense crowd before coming to rest against the wall of a shop. The impact caused two fatalities and left 20 people wounded.

Driver’s Account

The 60‑year‑old driver claimed that he lost control as the vehicle began to accelerate on its own and that the brakes failed. Toxicology tests showed he was not under the influence of alcohol.

Emergency Response

Medical teams, including 60 medics and 21 ambulances, rushed to the scene and transported all victims to hospitals. The injured include several who are in critical condition, potentially increasing the death toll.

Legal and Investigative Actions

Authorities have charged the driver with involuntary manslaughter and involuntary injury. Investigators are still determining the exact cause of the crash.
