Skra and Polonia Projects Accelerate; City Outlines Phasing and Funding

In Warsaw, Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has announced funding and phasing details for the Skra and Polonia sports projects, moving them from planning to execution.

City Launches Skra Arena Tender

Warsaw’s Center for Active Sports has put out a tender for a new sports hall at Skra, on Wawelska Street, with bids due 18 Dec 2025. The hall will seat about 6,000 for volleyball and basketball games. Construction is slated to begin in 2026 following a council decision to allocate 200 million PLN from the Warsaw Development Fund.

Polonia Complex Enters Final Private Partnership Stage

Parallel to Skra, the Polonia complex is in the final phase of selecting a private partner. Invitations were sent to four consortia in the last procurement step. Once a partner is chosen, design and construction of the Youth Sports Center will commence.

Project Scope and Phasing for Polonia

The Polonia project will feature a new stadium (~16,000 seats), a sports hall (~2,000 seats), a Sports Support Center with rehabilitation facilities, a three‑storey underground car park (~770 spaces) and a new public square. Phasing plans call for the hall, support center and parking first, followed by the stadium with three covered stands, and finally the west stand reconstruction.

Funding Plan and Budget Approval

In October, the city council approved budget changes to the Warsaw Development Fund, spreading payments from 2029 to 2052 and allowing revenue from commercialization of naming rights and stadium leasing to support the work.

Community Debate on Skra Hall Size and Location

Despite the progress, some residents of Ochota have questioned the scale and location of the Skra arena. The city maintains that the project is dedicated to sport and part of the “New Skra” program.
