A man was crushed beneath a Warsaw metro train at Bemowo station around 10:40 am, killing him and halting traffic on the M2 line, authorities say.
Fatal Accident at Bemowo Station
At approximately 10:40 am, a man fell onto the tracks at Bemowo station on line II of the Warsaw metro while a train was entering the platform. He was instantly crushed under the train, and despite immediate rescue work, his life could not be saved.
Rescue Operations and Outcomes
Fire brigade crews, a city operational officer and medical rescue teams arrived on site. They secured the platform and tracks and assisted medics in accessing the victim.
Emergency Response Measures
The area was cordoned off from passengers, and train movement on the western end of the M2 line was suspended. Two stations – Bemowo and Urlychów – were placed out of service.
Police Investigation and Current Status
Police work under prosecutor supervision. Officers are preserving evidence, documenting the scene, and determining the incident’s exact circumstances and the man’s identity. Travel in the affected area remains limited until the investigation concludes.
Operational Changes on M2 Line
The Warsaw Public Transport Authority (WTP) reports that technical reasons have shortened the M2 line’s route to Metro Bródno – Metro Księcia Janusza. Stations Bemowo and Urlychów are closed, and a temporary line, ZA METRO, operates along the path from Metro Bemowo 01 to Górczewska, via the Józefa Szczepańskiego “Ziutka” roundabout (turn) and back to Górczewska.
Impact on Passengers
Passengers at Bemowo and the surrounding area must transfer to other transport modes, as train service is suspended at two stations, including Bemowo. The resumption of normal services will depend on the completion of police and prosecutor investigations.
