On the night of September 9‑10, General Maciej Klisz disclosed that hundreds of drones entered Polish airspace from Ukraine, prompting a military response.
Hundreds of Drones Flew Toward Poland
General Maciej Klisz was asked in the Rzeczpospolita how many drones flew toward Poland on the night of 9–10 September. He said every Ukrainian object moving westward is treated by the Operational Command as heading toward Poland, and that there were several hundred such objects. Not all were directed straight at Poland; he estimates at least a dozen were on that path.
Dangerous Decoys
Some drones struck Ukrainian infrastructure, but only 23 crossed the Polish border. The discrepancy between the total number found and those that crossed the border is because some may have entered Poland earlier. Media counted fragments of individual drones as two drones, an error according to the general, who argues the cardboard‑and‑paper narrative is misleading: Russia equips even decoys with explosive material.
Military Shoots Down Drones
Several drones were shot down by Polish and allied forces. The Operational Command of the Armed Forces declared the breach of Polish airspace by Russia unprecedented, labeling it an attack and an act of aggression that posed a real threat to citizens’ safety. The most vulnerable regions were Podlaskie, Masovian, and Lublin voivodeships.
