A 41‑year‑old woman died on 28 May 2025 after a Caesarean section in Bielsk‑Biała, Poland, and prosecutors have charged two doctors with negligence that endangered her life.
Hospital Tragedy in Bielsk‑Biała
On 28 May 2025 a 41‑year‑old patient was admitted to the Centre Medical “Esculap” in Bielsk‑Biała for a scheduled Caesarean section.
Emergency Procedure Delayed by Hours
After the operation, the patient rapidly developed complications. The supervising gynaecologist was absent, and an anaesthesiologist present performed the necessary relaparotomy only several hours later.
Death After Transfer to Regional Hospital
The critically ill patient was transferred to the Silesian Hospital in Cieszyn, where, despite life‑saving efforts, she died.
Two Doctors Charged with Negligence
On 12 November, prosecutors filed charges against the anaesthesiologist and the gynaecologist for exposing the patient to direct danger and causing her death through numerous neglects.
Preventative Measures and Potential Sentence
The suspects were placed under police supervision, barred from contact with witnesses, given a financial bond, and prohibited from practising medicine. They face a possible sentence ranging from three months to five years imprisonment.
