Prime Minister Donald Tusk has convened an extraordinary session of Poland’s National Security Committee after two rail sabotage incidents on 16 November, citing the need to coordinate a national response.
Emergency Committee Meeting Scheduled
On Monday, 17 November, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Committee would take place the following day, 18 November. The meeting will be attended by military commanders, service heads, and a presidential representative. Typically the National Minister of Defence, Minister of the Interior and Administration, and the Special Services Coordinator are also present.
Track Damage at PKP Mika
On the morning of Sunday, 16 November, a train engineer passing the PKP Mika station in Garwoliński County noticed a section of track was damaged. Police confirmed that no one was injured; the train contained two passengers and several crew members at the time of the incident.
Prime Minister Tusk later posted on social media that an act of sabotage had taken place, describing an explosion of an explosive charge that destroyed the track.
Traction Line Failure Causes Overnight Train Halt
Later that night, another passenger train on the Świnoujście‑Rzeszów route stopped abruptly after a damaged traction line was discovered. Authorities have so far not confirmed sabotage, but the Minister of the Interior and Administration stated the incident is “very likely” sabotage.
