Czarzasty Set to Succeed Hołownia

On Tuesday, 18 November, the Sejm will begin a four‑day session to elect the new Marshal. Under the coalition agreement, Włodzimierz Czarzasty of the Left is to replace Szymon Hołownia. The vote requires an absolute majority with at least half the statutory number of MPs present. Support for Czarzasty’s candidacy has already been confirmed by the Civic Coalition, Left, Poland 2050, and the Polish People’s Party.

Witek Mulls Vice‑Marshal Position

MPs must also elect a vice‑marshal or vice‑marshals. Poland 2050 may nominate Szymon Hołownia for the post. Dorota Niedziela of the Civic Coalition said that Hołownia “was and remains a prominent parliamentary figure” and that he would be a suitable candidate. Law and Justice may recommend Elżbieta Witek. “We have our candidate for vice‑marshal, Ms Marshal Elżbieta Witek. I am convinced that if the Presidium changes in two weeks we will support her” said Przemysław Czarnek.

Hołownia Reflects on Resignation

On 13 November, Szymon Hołownia signed his resignation from the Marshal’s post. “I leave with nostalgia and sadness that it is over. Could the coalition agreement have been signed differently? In those circumstances it could not have been. In 2023 everyone was awaiting us to come to an agreement and form the government,” he said to Polsat News.
