On Friday, 21 November, the Polish Sejm voted against nominating Karol Polejowski as chief of the Institute of National Remembrance, with 201 votes for, 227 against, and six abstentions.

The 434 MPs counted the ballots, refusing to endow the position to the former deputy chairman. Polejowski had been recommended by the IPN Collegium after winning the competition, but his candidacy was sharply challenged by the Justice and Human Rights Committee.

Karol Polejowski – Profile and Credentials

Polejowski, a PhD in history, served as deputy chairman of the IPN and assumed presidential duties following the election of Karol Nawrocki as president.

He is a faculty member at the University of Gdańsk, specializing in medieval history and the Teutonic Order, and has worked at the Malbork Castle Museum and the World War II Museum in Gdańsk. Karol Nawrocki supported his candidature.
