A 61‑year‑old Hungarian truck driver died on the S3 near Międzyrzecze on Saturday, after police intervened over suspected drunken driving.
Incident on the S3
A truck traveling toward Gorzów Wielkopolski was reported by Międzyrzecze police as possibly operated by a drunk driver. Officers said the driver’s style of driving posed a danger to other road users and could damage roadside barriers.
Fatal Collision
During the operation, officers failed to stop the vehicle. After pulling the driver from the cab, the truck struck both the driver and a policeman. The driver died on the spot, while the officer sustained leg injuries.
Investigative Measures
Police officers present were tested with breathalyzers and found sober. Because of the poor physical and mental condition of the officers involved, the prosecutor postponed their immediate questioning after consulting psychologists and doctors.
Prosecutorial Actions
The Gorzów Wielkopolski District Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation on Monday for possible negligent homicide of the Hungarian citizen and for alleged police duty violations.
Current Status
No charges have been filed yet. The prosecutor’s office has scheduled a post‑mortem examination of the driver, officer interviews, and a technical inspection of the truck.
