U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin met on the Kremlin’s oval table for five hours, with a video clip showing their unexpected opening.
Video Shows Surprising Beginning
A clip released online captures the first moments of the five‑hour meeting between U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the Trump family son‑in‑law, at the Kremlin.
The video shows Witkoff, Kushner, Putin, and their interpreters seated at an oval table. The Americans confirm they enjoyed a “nice walk” around Moscow, and Putin praised the city’s development.
USA Says Some Progress Has Been Made
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News that the talks reached “some progress” on security guarantees for Ukraine.
Rubio added that a potential agreement would allow Ukraine to rebuild its economy and develop as an independent state, stressing that it must not become a Kremlin puppet.
Russia Calls Talks Productive
Russian official Kirill Dmitriev described the U.S.–Russia discussions as “productive,” while Yuri Usachov called them “constructive and substantive.”
Dmitriev said Putin would speak on whether Russia could accept parts of Donald Trump’s peace plan. The meeting marked the sixth round on Ukraine since the latest clashes in Florida.
Key Unresolved Issues
Disputed topics that were not settled include Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, such as the Donbas region.
Russian media note that Putin signals continued willingness to engage, but has not yet indicated a desire to end the war.
