Warsaw Garage Staff Burn Lacquered Flooring, Sending Toxic Smoke Through Half a District

On Monday, a Warsaw fire crew discovered dense smoke from a car‑repair workshop in Nowe Włochy after intercepting illegal burning of lacquered hardwood and treated pallets.

Dense smoke rises from local garage

During a routine patrol on Monday, Dec. 1, officers from Warsaw’s Environmental Protection Department spotted a plume of thick, dark smoke rising from the chimney of a local garage in the Nowe Włochy neighbourhood.

Illegal burning of lacquered floor and treated pallets

Investigators uncovered that the smoke was produced by the combustion of painted hardwood floor panels and impregnated transport pallets, releasing toxic chemicals into the air.

Health risks and community impact

The fumes poisoned workshop workers and residents, as the burning of lacquered and treated waste is known to emit highly hazardous chemical compounds that threaten human life.

Legal action and future monitoring

The offender was fined under current regulations and ordered to stop the pollution, while the workshop is scheduled for another inspection to ensure compliance.
