Europe Cautions Against Russian Attack, Labels Trump an Enemy – New Poll

A recent survey shows almost half of Europeans view former U.S. President Donald Trump as an adversary, while a majority also fear a Russian invasion, according to poll results released today.

Trump Seen as an Enemy by Half of Europeans

The Le GrandContinent platform survey found 48 % of respondents called Trump a “European enemy,” with Belgium at 62 %, France 57 %, Spain 53 % and Italy 50 %. Only 19 % of Poles considered him an enemy, while 24 % saw him as a friend.

European Perception of U.S. Relations Remains Strategic

Despite the hostility toward Trump, 48 % of respondents said the EU should take a compromise stance toward the U.S. government, a view highlighted by The Guardian.

Widespread Fear of Russian Invasion

More than half (51 %) of respondents believe the risk of war with Russia in the coming years is high, with 18 % rating it as very high. Polish citizens show the strongest fear, 77 % considering the risk high, followed by France 54 %, Germany 39 %, Portugal 39 % and Italy 34 %. The survey covered citizens of France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Low Confidence in National Military Capability

Sixty‑nine percent of all respondents feel their country cannot defend against Russian aggression, with 58 % of Poles sharing that view.

Russia Threatens Retaliation Over EU’s Use of Frozen Assets

The European Commission suggested using frozen Russian assets to fund further aid to Ukraine, prompting the Kremlin to warn of retaliation. The Russian foreign ministry said the proposal was “unnormal,” noting it would use foreign funds for reparations, while Moscow has previously barred foreign investors from withdrawing funds invested in Russia.
