Phone Conversation between Donald Trump and Alexander Lukashenko

Before his encounter with Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by telephone with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

Lukashenko’s Office Announces Shared Agenda and Visit Invitation

Lukashenko’s office released a statement confirming that the leaders of the two nations discussed the bilateral agenda, regional matters, and flare‑up situations, including Ukraine. An agreement was reached to continue contact. The Belarus president invited Trump and his family to Minsk, and the invitation was accepted.

Donald Trump: It Was a Great Conversation

“I had a great conversation with the respected President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. The purpose was to thank him for the release of 16 political prisoners. We also discussed the release of another 1,300 prisoners. Our talk was very successful, covering many topics, including President Putin’s visit to Alaska,” Trump said on Truthsocial.com, adding, “I look forward to meeting President Lukashenko in the future.”

Repression of the Opposition

The Human Rights Defense Center “Wiasna” reported in August that since the peaceful protests and the falsified 2020 Belarus elections, more than 100 000 cases of opposition repression have occurred. Nearly 9 000 individuals were convicted in political trials, including over 1 700 women, 85 foreigners, and four Poles.

Appeal to “Adherence to Commitments”

In a statement issued by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the fifth anniversary of Belarus’s presidential elections, the ministry urged Belarusian authorities to return to fulfilling commitments made under UN and OSCE membership, and to release all conscience‑affected prisoners including Andrzej Poczobut. This gesture would foster trust between Central and Eastern European countries and stabilize the region. Belarus is part of the European family of states, and Europe offers a path to enduring development and prosperity.
