Warsaw prosecutors are investigating the murder of an unidentified man after a body wrapped in plastic was discovered in a Żoliborz apartment on May 4, 2026.
Discovery at Powązkowska Street
On May 4, 2026, at approximately 6:40 PM, police responded to reports of a foul odor emanating from a balcony at 68 Powązkowska Street in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district. Officers and firefighters entered the residence, which was reportedly occupied by two elderly brothers, after receiving no response to knocks at the door.
As authorities entered through an open window, a loud thud was heard from a third-floor window on the opposite side of the unit. A man was found dead directly below the window, and despite resuscitation efforts, he did not survive.
Evidence and Second Body Found
On the windowsill of the third-floor window, investigators discovered a cloth rope tied to a radiator. Inside the apartment, officers also discovered a second body lying on the floor, wrapped in a plastic bag and secured with tape.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, a full on-site examination of the body inside the apartment was not conducted. Autopsies are expected to be carried out as early as this week.
Legal Charges and Forensic Investigation
Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesperson for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed that the investigation includes the murder of an unidentified man under Article 148 § 1 of the Penal Code. Authorities are also investigating whether an identified person was incited to commit suicide, a charge under Article 151 of the Penal Code.
Although two identity documents were recovered at the scene, investigators will likely require DNA testing to confirm the identities of the deceased and establish the exact circumstances of the events at the Powązkowska residence.
