Crash on Hotel Parking Lot
During the evening of Wednesday, December 17, a 33‑year‑old woman was guiding a Volkswagen with German licence plates to park at a hotel on Mikołaja Kopernika Street in Zielona Góra. The car suddenly accelerated forward, the driver lost control, and it crashed into her 58‑year‑old mother. The vehicle then broke through the parking fence and came to rest on a walkway in a nearby park.
Rescue Operations and Life‑Saving Efforts
The woman was trapped under the vehicle. All emergency services were called immediately. Firefighters had to use specialised equipment, including pneumatic airbags, to lift the car and extricate the victim. The 58‑year‑old was in critical condition; her circulation stopped and she was repeatedly resuscitated until vital signs were restored. She was then taken to a hospital where physicians fought for her life for several hours.
Woman Succumbs at Hospital
At around 3 a.m., the victim died from extensive injuries, changing the nature of the proceeding. The case of a fatal accident falls under the jurisdiction of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra. Under criminal law, causing an accident with a fatal outcome may lead to up to eight years in prison.
