Putin adviser Yuri Ushakov rejects Europe and Ukraine’s peace plan amid U.S. talks with Moscow and Kyiv in Miami on Dec. 21.
Putin Adviser Skeptical About Peace Plan
In the U.S., former President Donald Trump’s administration has been holding talks with Ukraine and Russia on ending the war over the weekend.
Yuri Ushakov, adviser to President Vladimir Putin, expressed doubts that the peace proposals put forward by Europeans and Ukrainians improve the document or increase the chances of lasting peace.
He added that any trilateral meeting between Russia, the United States and Ukraine is neither being prepared nor discussed in the Miami negotiations.
U.S.-Ukraine Talks Continue in Miami
On Sunday, December 21, Ukrainian and American delegations continued their discussions in Miami, Florida.
Ukrainian representative Rustem Umierow posted on social media that the talks are constructive, concrete, and aimed at tangible results.
President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the inclusion of European delegations, noting that signals from Russia—border‑region war crimes, frontline attacks, and relentless bombardment of Ukrainian infrastructure—remain negative. He stressed the importance of global attention to the situation.
Europe Considers Rapprochement with Russia
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Putin’s expressed willingness to negotiate and called for Europe to re‑engage with Russia over the Ukraine conflict.
A statement from Élysée Palace said the Kremlin had publicly agreed to dialogue and that discussions with Moscow would proceed with full transparency towards Ukraine and European allies.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov echoed this, noting that Putin had offered to talk with Macron, a response to the French leader’s insistence that the United States should not lead the cease‑fire negotiations.
