Perry Bamonte, longtime member of The Cure, died at home after a brief illness during the Christmas holidays.
Death announced by The Cure
The band confirmed with great sadness that Perry Bamonte, their long‑time friend and member, died at home after a brief illness during the Christmas holidays. “Quiet, serious, intuitive, steadfast and extraordinarily creative, ‘Teddy’ was a warm and attentive part of The Cure’s history,” the band added.
Career with The Cure (1990‑2005)
Bamonte joined The Cure as a full member in 1990, contributing on keyboards and guitar. Over 14 years he performed more than 400 concerts with the group.
Departure, illustration work and return (2005‑2022)
In 2005 he was removed from the band alongside Roger O’Donnell. He later worked as an illustrator, among other pursuits, before rejoining The Cure in 2022 and playing live in 90 additional shows.
Band’s founding and impact
The Cure formed in late 1970s England, led by vocalist and guitarist Robert Smith and drummer Lol Tolhurst. The group has released 14 studio albums and sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. Iconic tracks include “Lullaby,” “Lovesong,” and “Friday I’m in Love.”
