Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has officially submitted a proposal to US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth regarding the establishment of a new, permanent American military base on Polish soil.
Adjustment of US Forces in Europe
The model of US military presence in Europe is currently undergoing significant changes. The Pentagon announced in late May that it had reduced the number of assigned Brigade Combat Teams (BCT) from four to three, reverting to 2021 levels.
According to department spokesperson Sean Parnell, this shift will result in delays regarding the deployment of American troops to Poland. Reports had previously circulated suggesting that the deployment of four thousand soldiers from the Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) had been canceled.
Strategic Planning and Cooperation
On May 20, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that Poland would collaborate with the United States to analyze and plan future force deployments in Europe. The Minister of National Defense assured that Poland is actively participating in this ongoing planning process led by General Grynkiewicz.
Official Proposal for Permanent Presence
On Wednesday, June 3, the head of the Ministry of National Defense emphasized that US commitment to Poland’s security remains robust and potentially set to increase. Kosiniak-Kamysz announced via the platform X that he had formally proposed the creation of a new, permanent American military base to Secretary Pete Hegseth, reinforcing his stance that national security depends on a strong army and firm alliances.
