Sanatorium Stays in 2026: Waiting Times and Costs by Region

The National Health Fund reveals current waiting times and costs for sanatorium stays across Poland’s provinces in 2026.

Waiting Times by Voivodeship

Poland has 16 regional National Health Fund branches that handle and implement referrals for spa treatments. The appropriate NFZ branch is determined based on the patient’s place of residence. The shortest waiting times for sanatorium trips apply in specific voivodeships, with longer waits in others. The national average waiting time is currently 9 months.

Sanatorium Stay Costs by Standard

Each adult using NFZ-funded sanatorium treatment bears expenses for accommodation and meals. The amount depends on the room standard and the current billing season. There are two billing periods: off-season (January-March, October-December) and peak season (April-September). A sanatorium stay lasts 21 days, with rates provided as daily amounts to be multiplied by 21 for the total cost.

Accommodation Options

Available accommodation includes single rooms, double rooms, and multi-bed rooms. During the three-week stay, each patient is guaranteed 54 therapeutic treatments. The admission process typically involves checking available treatments on the sanatorium’s website or by phone, with experienced patients recommending reviewing available treatments before arrival and discussing preferences with the local doctor.

Joint Accommodation with Family

A standard adult sanatorium referral does not allow travel with an accompanying person unless they also have a referral. Such stays are only possible fully paid and subject to availability. Patients should contact the sanatorium directly. However, in practice, situations occur where two people with similar conditions request joint travel in the same period, arguing for mutual care, and receive a positive decision.

Expedited Stays Through Cancellations

Individuals wanting to reduce waiting times for sanatorium treatment can use so-called “cancellations” – slots freed by patients who have canceled for various reasons. To use this option, patients must be ready to depart within a very short period – no longer than 14 days from confirmation of the referral to treatment start. Regional NFZ branches provide detailed information on available cancellations.
