A recent Ipsos poll highlights Donald Trump’s lowest approval rating in his second term, with 40% of Americans backing him and over half believing the president is overly linked to Russia.
Lowest Support Since January for Trump
Reuters reported the results of the Ipsos survey measuring support for President Donald Trump. The Republican’s approval rating sits at 40 %, unchanged from the July poll and the lowest since the start of his second term. In January, shortly after taking office, his approval was 47 %. The poll also recorded the biggest drop in perception among Latino Americans, dropping to 32 %. Reuters noted that this demographic consists of U.S. citizens.
Trump Too Close to Russia
According to Ipsos, 54 % of respondents believe Trump is “too close to Russia,” with a fifth identifying as Republican voters. The survey was conducted during a period that included Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, and after his Monday meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky and European leaders, during which Trump pledged to bring the two leaders together. In his campaign, Trump claimed he would end the war in Ukraine within a day.
Trump’s Domestic Policy
Reuters also noted that 42 % of respondents approve of Trump’s crime‑fighting efforts, while 43 % approve of his handling of immigration. These approvals were mainly from Trump’s voters. Last week Trump announced that the National Guard, federal agents, and increased police presence would be deployed in Washington, D.C., to address crime he said had spiraled out of control, a claim contradicted by city police data. Trump also urged those experiencing homelessness to “get out of the capital.”
