Eight-Year-Old Child Falls from Cable Car in Tatra Mountains

An 8-year-old boy fell from a cable car in Slovakia’s High Tatras, sustaining spine and chest injuries.

Accident Details

According to the “Pravda” newspaper, the accident occurred in the Slovak part of the High Tatras. Near Štrbské Pleso, an 8-year-old boy was using the cable car when he fell from a height of approximately 5 meters.

Injuries

The Slovak air rescue service reported that a rescue helicopter was dispatched from Poprad to the accident site. A doctor on board was lowered to the injured child using an onboard winch. “The 8-year-old skier suffered injuries to the spine and chest after falling from a height of about 5 meters from the cable car,” stated the report.

Medical Condition

The child was given first aid and transported to a hospital in Poprad. The boy’s condition is described as stable. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
