Sebastian M., accused in a fatal A1 highway crash, claimed Poland falsified extradition documents during a court hearing.
Court Hearing and Allegations
On Monday, January 19, another hearing took place with Sebastian M., who is accused of causing a fatal accident on the A1 highway in 2023. Before the hearing concluded, the accused read two court documents. In one, he accused the Polish prosecutor’s office of falsifying documents allegedly sent to the United Arab Emirates during his extradition proceedings. M. assured that he did not flee the accident scene – an argument he claimed investigators used in efforts to return him to Poland.
Polish prosecutor’s office representative present in the courtroom denied Sebastian M.’s accusations regarding the course of extradition proceedings. A representative of victims’ families stated that at the beginning of the trial, the accused tried to present himself as “a person somewhat inclined to reflect on the A1 tragedy, but now clearly believes ‘the best defense is attack’.”
Questioning by the Judge
On his words, Judge Renata Folkman reacted. “Why did you leave the accident scene?” she asked. Majtczak explained that his trip to UAE had a business character. “I run a company worldwide, I had a business trip planned in the Emirates,” he stated.
“Why didn’t you take the problem on your chest? People died, there is some gradation,” the judge pressed. M. replied that he did not feel guilty about the deaths of three victims, according to journalists.
Fatal A1 Accident Background
In October of last year in Piotrków Trybunalski (Łódzkie province), the trial of Sebastian M. formally began. He is accused of causing a fatal accident on the A1 highway in 2023. In the accident, a married couple and their 5-year-old son died. The man was allegedly driving at a speed of over 250 kilometers per hour.
Flight and Extradition
After the accident, he first fled to Germany, then to the United Arab Emirates. He was wanted with an arrest warrant and a red notice from Interpol. Sebastian M. was once arrested by UAE authorities but was released on bail. Eventually, the local court agreed to his extradition.
Vehicle Modifications
Experts determined that on Sebastian M.’s orders, the power of the BMW Alpina B7 was increased and the factory speed limiter was removed, allowing the vehicle to reach speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. Sebastian M. also had an anti-radar device permanently installed in the car, which interfered with the speed meters used by authorities during road checks.
