On Tuesday, January 20, Donald Tusk posted on X that “concessions are always a sign of weakness.” He stated that “Europe cannot afford weakness – neither towards enemies nor allies,” emphasizing that “European firmness and self-confidence have become a necessity of the moment.”

Newsom Criticizes European ‘Subservience’

California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Europe’s cautious reaction regarding Greenland at the Economic Forum in Davos. “I should have brought knee pads for all the world leaders,” he said, adding that he “cannot bear this subservience” and hopes people understand “how pathetic they look on the international stage.”

Parliamentary Unity on Greenland Issue

A debate in Strasbourg saw rare unity between pro-European and Eurosceptic forces. Danish MEP Christel Schaldemose stated, “Mr. President Trump, despite the threats, Greenland is not for sale.” Jordan Bardella emphasized that “the European Union cannot remain silent” and that “this is not about escalation, but about defending sovereignty.” Danish MEP Villy Sovndal added, “Hands off Greenland.”
