Polish media report State Protection Service chief gen. Radosław Jaworski was suspended over financial, hiring, and security concerns.
Reasons for Suspension
Media outlets cited three grounds for the suspension of State Protection Service (SOP) chief gen. bryg. Radosław Jaworski, including a 2023 control revealing potential state losses of about one million złoty due to unpaid vehicle maintenance fees. A second reason was hiring an officer with a prior DUI conviction, while third were concerns over protection plans for individuals guarded by SOP.
Letter Accelerated Actions
A January letter signed by multiple SOP directors demanding Jaworski’s return “angered” Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński, accelerating disciplinary steps. Kierwiński, citing the service’s sensitivity, suspended Jaworski and initiated proceedings, with his duties assumed by deputy Tomasz Jackowicz.
Recent Context
Suspension follows September incidents, including the theft of a Lexus from Donald Tusk’s family and drone-related arrests near Belweder. An informant noted Jaworski’s “special” financial and personnel actions were exposed by the control, with the letter hastening the minister’s response.
