Greenland Prepares for Crisis as Government Issues Guide Amid Trump Threats

Greenland’s government issued a crisis preparedness guide on January 21 amid political tensions over U.S. takeover threats.

Guide Launch

The Greenlandic government published a brochure titled “Readiness in Case of Crisis – Prepare for the Next Five Days” on Wednesday, January 21.

The document provides advice for households on water and food quantities and storage methods.

Recommendations

In case of shortages, residents are advised to hunt and fish for sustenance.

The guide lists essential items including medications, hygiene products, water containers, heating pads, blankets, warm clothing, a generator, fuel, cash, candles, matches, and a radio.

Emergency Contacts

Important telephone numbers for family, neighbors, and emergency services should be saved, along with potentially helpful contact numbers included at the end of the brochure.

Political Context

The guide comes amid tensions related to U.S. desires to acquire Greenland. Minister for Self-Sufficiency Peter Borg stated the publication is not an expectation of crisis but an encouragement for responsibility and preparedness.

Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen deemed a military operation against Greenland “unlikely” but stressed the need for readiness. President Trump assured he does not intend to use force but called for “immediate negotiations” on the matter.
