President Trump announces framework agreement on Greenland at Davos, describes it as ‘very favorable’ for US and NATO.
Trump on the Greenland Agreement
Donald Trump spoke with the NATO Secretary General in Davos. After the meeting concluded, he informed on Truth Social about its content, describing it as “very fruitful.”
“We have developed a framework for a future agreement regarding Greenland, and in essence, the entire Arctic region. This solution – if finalized – will be very beneficial for the United States of America and all NATO countries,” Trump communicated.
He also added: “Additional talks regarding the Golden Dome in the context of Greenland are ongoing. Further information will be provided as the talks progress.” The US president also stated that those responsible for negotiations in this matter include, among others, Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Tariff Decision
In his post, Trump also stated that based on the agreement, he will not impose tariffs that were scheduled to be applied from February 1st to products from European countries supporting Denmark and Greenland. Recall that this concerned Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Finland. These countries would have been subject to 10% tariffs from the USA. This was supposed to be a response to the sending of troops to Greenland. In reaction to Trump’s threats about taking over the island by force, these countries conducted an international reconnaissance mission on its territory.
Trump Wants to Take Over Greenland
The President of the United States appeared at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday (January 21). During his speech, he assured, among other things, that his country would not attack Greenland, but did not withdraw from his intention to take control over it. He argued that the United States should get Greenland because Denmark is unable to defend the island. He also said that the USA has done a lot for Europe and suggested that giving up Greenland would be a way to repay the debt of gratitude.
“We never got anything in return and probably won’t get anything, unless I decide to use force. Then we would be unstoppable. But I won’t do that,” he assured and added that he does not give up on attempts to obtain the island, which he calls “a big, beautiful piece of ice.” Trump said that European leaders face a choice. “You can say: yes – and we will be very grateful to you, or you can say: no – and we will remember that,” he declared. The US President expects immediate negotiations from Europe regarding Greenland.
