Warsaw: 87-year-old struck by car at pedestrian crossing, taken unconscious to hospital.
Incident Details
On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, before 15:00, a serious accident occurred at a pedestrian crossing on Szczęśliwicka Street in Warsaw’s Ochota district – an elderly man was hit by a passenger Toyota and taken unconscious to the hospital.
The incident occurred on Szczęliwicka Street, between Grzymały-Sokołowskiego Street and Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 Street. The female driver of the Toyota was traveling from Grzymały-Sokołowskiego Street toward Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 Street. At the marked pedestrian crossing, she hit an 87-year-old man.
Victim’s Condition
According to initial findings at the scene, the pedestrian was struck while crossing the street and then was carried on the car’s hood for about 10 meters. After the Toyota stopped, the man fell from the vehicle and came to rest several meters away – about 8 meters from where the car was stopped. A large blood stain was visible in the area where the injured person was located.
Medical Response
A medical rescue team was dispatched to the scene. The paramedics provided assistance on site for an extended period, after which the unconscious 87-year-old was transported to the hospital on Szaserów Street. At the time of reporting, the condition of the injured person was unknown.
Police Investigation
Police officers also worked at the scene. The female driver of the Toyota was sober, but due to the serious condition of the pedestrian, her blood was taken for further testing. Observations at the scene suggest that the driver may have been driving into the bright, low-lying sun, which could have limited visibility – however, this is merely an observation from the scene, not information from the driver’s statement or official findings.
