Activists Attempt to Damage German Chancellor’s Plane; Police Make Arrests

German police have arrested three activists suspected of trying to damage Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s private aircraft.

Police Foiled Plans

The incident occurred overnight from Wednesday to Thursday (January 21-22) in the town of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia. There is a hangar there where the German Chancellor keeps his private light aircraft. Everything indicates that the detained trio wanted to damage the plane of the head of the German government, but their plans were thwarted – the prosecutor’s office and police reported.

Near the Hangar

As reported, two women and a man aged 23, 28 and 56 were arrested for disturbing the peace after they entered the area where the hangar is located without authorization. According to investigative authorities, the entire trio was known to police and had previously participated in protests motivated by left-wing and pro-climate policies.

A group called ‘Collective of Resistance’ then issued a statement saying that “as part of a protest action, an attempt was made to disable Friedrich Merz’s private plane.”
