87-Year-Old Man Dies After Being Struck at Ochota Pedestrian Crossing

An 87-year-old man died in hospital on January 22 after being struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Warsaw’s Ochota district.

The Incident

The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 21, before 3:00 PM, on Szczęśliwicka Street in Warsaw’s Ochota district, between Grzymały-Sokołowskiego Street and Battle of Warsaw 1920 Street. At a marked pedestrian crossing, a driver of a Toyota car, heading towards Battle of Warsaw 1920 Street, struck an elderly man.

Medical Response and Death

A medical rescue team was dispatched to the scene. The injured man was transported in an unconscious state to the hospital at Szaserów Street. According to information provided by the police, on January 22, the man died in the hospital as a result of sustained injuries – despite medical assistance, his life could not be saved.

Police Investigation

Police officers conducted their work at the accident scene. The driver of the Toyota was sober, and additionally blood was taken from her for further tests. The police continues to conduct procedural actions and determinations regarding the course of the incident, which is being supervised by the prosecutor’s office.

Context

This is the second fatal accident on Warsaw’s streets this year, and at the same time the second fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. Earlier this week, there was a tragic accident at the intersection of Grochowska and Zamieniecka Streets.
