A 41-year-old man was arrested in Kraków for allegedly breaking into an apartment and attempting to strangle a 13-year-old girl.
Night Attack in Kraków Tenement
In the night from January 7 to 8, around 1:50 AM, police received a report of a dangerous incident in an apartment where a woman with two daughters was staying. According to officers, the older of the girls was disturbed by noises coming from the staircase.
Shortly after, an unknown person allegedly entered the unlocked apartment, went to her room, looked through her purse, then took a laptop from the bed and left.
Attempted Strangulation
The 17-year-old ran to wake her sleeping mother. A moment later, the stranger reappeared in the apartment, this time heading to the room of her 13-year-old sister.
The intruder grabbed the sleeping girl by the neck – trying to strangle her and struck her in the face, then fled the apartment, frightened by her scream and the screams of the other two women. As a result of the incident, the girl suffered minor injuries.
Perpetrator Apprehended
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Kraków reported that police quickly established a description of the perpetrator and began intensive searches. In the case, a 41-year-old Damian M. was detained.
He was charged with attempted murder and theft. At the request of investigators, the court decided to temporarily arrest the man for three months. He faces a sentence of 15 years to life imprisonment.
