Police Prevention officers thwarted an attempted car theft at Janki Shopping Center on January 3, 2026, after arresting two suspects with a stolen Mercedes Sprinter tow truck.
Attempted Theft at Janki Shopping Center
The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Pruszków is conducting proceedings regarding an attempted car theft at the Janki Shopping Center parking lot. The incident occurred on January 3, 2026, and the suspects were arrested at the scene by police officers.
According to prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba from the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, “The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Pruszków is supervising investigation 4310-5.Ds.3.2026 into the attempted theft on January 3, 2026, on the CH Janki parking lot of a Mitsubishi Outlander worth approximately 90,000 zł, but the intended goal was not achieved due to the perpetrators’ arrest by Police officers.”
Stolen Tow Truck Used in Plot
According to information obtained by the editorial office, the theft was thwarted by officers from the Police Prevention units, who were surprised by the men’s behavior at the shopping center parking lot in the middle of the night. An Audi car was also revealed, which the thieves had used to come to the theft location, and after the unsuccessful attempt, they returned with a tow truck to transport the vehicle.
From information provided by the prosecutor’s office, it appears the perpetrators were traveling in a stolen tow truck. The spokesperson stated: “The perpetrators were traveling in a Mercedes Sprinter tow truck, stolen with burglary, with license plates from another vehicle.”
Legal Charges Filed Against Suspects
In this case, two suspects were arrested. According to the announcement, they were charged with three counts: under Article 306 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code, under Article 13 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code in connection with Article 279 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, and under Article 291 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
Court Decision on Remand
The prosecutor filed applications with the District Court in Pruszków for the application of preventive measures in the form of temporary detention against both suspects. As reported by prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba: “The court, by its decision of January 6, 2026, applied a preventive measure in the form of temporary detention for a period of 3 months against suspect Dawid J., while for the second of the perpetrators, Erik G., the court did not grant this request.” The announcement also emphasized: “The prosecutor disagreed with this court decision and appealed it to the court of second instance.”
The proceedings are ongoing. As indicated in the information provided by the prosecutor’s office, “The proceedings remain ongoing, further evidentiary actions will be carried out in this case.”
