Meeting Arranged Despite Initial Silence
Leader Szymon Hołownia proposed a meeting on Friday, initially receiving no response from potential successors Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paulina Hennig-Kloska. “I did not receive a response,” Hołownia told journalists in the Sejm.
Later that afternoon, the trio contacted each other and scheduled a meeting for after Friday’s Sejm votes, expected to conclude around 18:30.
Tensions Over Leadership Elections
Poland 2050 is under significant strain, facing a potential split. The uncertainty surrounds next week’s vote for a party leader, contested by Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Hennig-Kloska in a repeated second round of elections.
A group of politicians, particularly Hołownia’s allies known as “Szymonites,” argue the entire election should be invalidated and potentially redone with Hołownia as a candidate.
Co-Leadership Proposal Rejected
In this tense situation, Hołownia agreed to a proposal by Pełczyńska-Nałęcz for a co-leadership model, with the two ministers leading the party jointly.
Hennig-Kloska has so far rejected this option, insisting the internal elections begun in December must be completed.
Parliamentary Vote Underway
A separate vote for nine members of the National Council (six MPs and three senators) began in the Poland 2050 parliamentary club at 16:00. Hołownia is among the candidates. The remote voting is set to conclude at 18:30.
