Polish MP Paweł Kowal declared the Osiny drone incident the start of Russian aggression, calling for heightened vigilance amid escalating tensions.
Russian drone over Poland: “a beginning?”
On Wednesday, August 20, on Polsat News, KO MP Paweł Kowal said the incident with the drone that exploded in Osiny is “the beginning” of Russian actions. He warned that provocations and sabotage could also occur. “The closer we get to an agreement over Ukraine, it won’t be peace but rather some sort of cease‑fire—moreover Poland will become a target for Putin,” he said, adding that Poland’s aid to Ukraine could further fuel Russian hostility.
Russian drone with Korean text?
Deputy Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz had earlier stated at a press conference that “once again we are dealing with a provocation from the Russian side, with a Russian drone.” The same view was expressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Paweł Wroński, who informed Reuters that the UAV that exploded in Osiny is the Russian version of the Iranian Shahed drone. Prosecutor Grzegorz Trusiewicz from the Lublin District Prosecutor’s Office said investigators could not precisely determine the drone’s origin or manufacturer. “Although the most preserved element shows text probably in Korean, we cannot identify the producer or the specific type of device we are dealing with,” he said.
Explosion of the drone in Osiny
The explosion occurred on Wednesday around 2 a.m. on a cornfield in the village of Osiny (Łuków County, Lublin Voivodeship). Fragments of the military drone fell to the ground, and the blast was strong enough to shatter windows in nearby buildings. “Preliminary analysis of radar system logs shows that last night there was no breach of Polish airspace from either Ukraine or Belarus,” the Headquarters of Armed Forces reported.
