Warsaw’s Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki confirmed that the drone that crashed in Osiny was Russian, pledged to protest against similar incursions, and outlined a planned diplomatic note to Moscow.
Deputy Foreign Minister Releases New Information
On Thursday, 21 August, Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki addressed the drone incident that occurred the previous day in the town of Osiny in eastern Poland. He expressed strong confidence that the aircraft was a Russian drone, citing clear evidence from the Ministry of National Defence that it was operated by forces of the Russian Federation.
Intended Target and Russian Origin Confirmed
Bosacki explained that the drone was allegedly intended for use against Ukraine, had flown over a fragment of Ukrainian territory, and then crashed within Polish borders. He emphasized that every time an unauthorized aircraft or other object enters Polish territory, the country must protest, particularly in the current case involving a Russian drone.
Planned Note to the Russian Foreign Minister
The Deputy Foreign Minister stated that Poland would issue a diplomatic note to Russia today, pending full clarification of the incident. He noted that should the Polish Prime Minister provide NATO evidence indicating intentional provocation, Poland would be prepared to intensify the tone of the communication. The note is expected to be presented to the Russian Ambassador in Warsaw, or, if this is not possible due to the ambassador’s leave, to the ambassador’s deputy.
Prosecutor Sums Up Suspected Belarusian Link
Prosecutor Grzegorz Trusiewicz reported on Thursday that the drone, which exploded in the Lublin province, most likely entered Poland from Belarusian territory. Investigators have ruled out the possibility that the unmanned aircraft fell onto a cornfield after colliding with a power line. They secured three electrical lines showing fresh damage traces and collected soil from the explosion site for explosive residue analysis. The investigation continues, with around 150 service representatives and six prosecutors on scene.
