AfD ‘Decidedly Extremist’

The Federal Constitutional Protection Office (BfV) has classified the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as “decidedly right-wing extremist,” prompting demands for its delegalization. The Greens and SPD are pushing for the immediate formation of a federal-state group to gather evidence against the party. However, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt insists on awaiting the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe’s decision before initiating any legal action.

Could AfD Be Banned in Germany?

According to the German constitution, a party can be banned if its goals or supporters’ actions threaten the democratic order or the existence of the Federal Republic. Professor Markus Ogorek, head of the Institute of Public Law and Administrative Theory, noted that while such procedures have stalled for other parties, AfD’s electoral success, stable structures, and societal presence make it unlikely to face similar obstacles. In the latest Forsa poll, commissioned by RTL and NTV, AfD secured first place with 26% support.

He denies all allegations and claims his innocence.
